Premiere Pro Update 2025: Here’s What to Look Forward To

So, what's coming to Premiere Pro 2025? From workflow-enhancing templates to powerful new editing tools, the Premiere Pro new features are designed to save you time and simplify your editing process. This fall, these changes might transform how you approach your projects—and the best part? They’re currently in beta, which you can test via the Adobe Creative Cloud desktop app and give your feedback to Adobe.

Let’s jump into these features and see how they’ll impact your editing.

What is new in Premiere Pro 2025? (First look!)

Project Starter Templates to Kickstart Your Workflow

One of the most exciting new features in Premiere Pro 2025 is the introduction of pre-designed templates. When you open a new project, you’ll notice a template dropdown menu with options suited for different workflows. These templates come with preloaded sequences in the right aspect ratios, and different bins, which can drastically speed up the setup process.

Instead of manually creating folders or setting the right sequence settings every time, you can choose a template that fits your workflow. You can even customize and save your own templates. For example, I work with 1080p at 29.97 frames per second, so I adjusted a standard template and saved it as my very own "Gal Media Template." Trust me, once you try this feature, you'll wonder how you ever lived without it.

Transforming the Timeline with Fit, Fill, and Crop

One of the most significant improvements in the Premiere Pro update is the new Fit and Fill feature in the properties panel. Gone are the days of manually scaling your clips to fit your sequence. With this update, you can select multiple clips and choose whether to fit them into your sequence or fill the entire frame.

For instance, when working with 4K or 6K footage, I sometimes encounter issues with clips being zoomed in due to sequence mismatches. But with the new Fit and Fill options, those problems are a thing of the past. It’s incredibly easy to resize and align everything, and if your aspect ratios don’t match, you can fix that with a simple click.

The Premiere Pro 2025 update also integrates a crop tool directly into the properties panel, meaning no more digging through effect menus! You can crop right there in the panel, speeding up your work even further. I love this new functionality—it’s all about saving time while maintaining precision.

Enhanced Color Management

Color grading in the new Premiere Pro is another area where Adobe has made some exciting upgrades. The software automatically recognizes RAW footage, like RED RAW, and applies the appropriate color space conversion. For instance, when working with RED LOG wide gamut footage, the software instantly auto-tones the color to Rec. 709 - saving you from the hassle of manually applying LUTs (Look Up Tables) presets.

If your download log clips from Stock Footage sites, like Artlist, those clips have been transcoded and no longer include the correct Log meta-data for Premiere Pro to recognize it’s color space, thus the clips don’t automatically auto-tone to the correct color space. There’s a quick fix for that. Simply right-click on your footage, select "Modify Color," and choose the appropriate color profile, such as DLOG-M for DJI Mavic Log footage. This update is a huge timesaver, especially when dealing with various footage types. It’s a small hack, but it can make a huge difference in maintaining color consistency across your project.

Streamlined Graphics and Audio Editing

Another standout addition to the Premiere Pro new features is the revamped properties panel, which now consolidates graphics and audio controls. If you’re like me, you often work with multiple graphics layers at once. Now, instead of adjusting each graphic individually, you can select all of them and make batch edits—changing colors or even fonts all at once. It's a massive time-saver!

Similarly, audio editing has become more efficient. With just 2 clicks, you can adjust volume or apply effects to multiple audio clips simultaneously. And if you need more advanced controls, the essential sound panel is just a click away. Adobe really nailed the balance between simplicity and functionality in this update.

Performance Boosts and UI Refresh

In terms of performance, the update offers significant app improvements. Adobe has optimized hardware acceleration for AVC and HEVC formats, while ProRes render times are now three times faster. For those working with ProRes footage, this means less time waiting and more time editing.

Adobe has also freshened up the interface with a modernized design. The rounded corners and consistent UI across panels offer a sleek and professional look, making long editing sessions a little easier on the eyes.

You can now choose your prefered color theme.

The Future of Premiere Pro

With the Premiere Pro 2025 update, Adobe is clearly listening to its users and refining the tools we rely on. The new properties panel, enhanced color management, and improved template functionality are just a few highlights that will help streamline workflows.

Don’t forget, you can influence future updates by participating in the beta program. Your feedback helps shape these new features, so be sure to download the beta and let Adobe know what you think. The future of video editing is brighter than ever with these innovations, and it is nice to see how Premiere Pro continues to evolve.
